A show based on texts which, although placed in a specific context and geography, speak of the universal nature of emotions, about Cape Verde, in Portuguese and in the local Creole dialect.
On the immense ship deck that is the archipelago, “pieces” of stories and poems may be heard among songs and prayers. An actress and a musician turn literature into a pretext for an imaginary voyage, whose itinerary is made up of words written by authors from the Cape Verde Islands. Their texts travel across time and the islands, bringing together prose writers and poets, and lending a voice and rhythm to characters and feelings, to stories of a place that speaks about itself.
We know that for each voyage we must choose a route, leaving behind some of the great names of Cape Verde’s literature. However, as this project is under the sign of Traveling, we believe that there is enough life left in Cape Verde to return to the land when “sodade” (saudade, or yearning) calls us back, the makers of the show say.
We find again the pleasure to stop and listen, we rediscover the profound simplicity of things.
