Motto: How far can one go for money? And to get rid of it?
Lari Giorgescu, Silvian Vâlcu, Vladimir Turturica
Two men from different social classes (a worker and an intellectual) share a squalid dwelling in a country they cannot leave any longer: the worker stays for the money he hopes to earn, and the intellectual because he is politically persecuted in his home country. They exploit each other in different ways: the intellectual takes his roommate as study material, claiming that he wants to write a book about slaving for money, while the worker is happy that his roommate pays his rent, food, drinks and cigarettes. The story occurs on New Year’s night, when everything grows out of proportion: drunkenness, hope, fear.
Two young actors, Lari Giorgescu şi Silvian Vâlcu, took their careers in their hands and, with the set designer Vladimir Turturica, put up a show, found a place to perform it (the private club LaScena), advertised it themselves, and became successful in a very ungenerous economic climate. An example that should be followed!
