THE 2009 RNTF: A RICH FESTIVAL OPEN TO YOUNG PEOPLE

Everyone knows that 2009 has been a difficult year in many respects. Although this edition is more restricted financially, the National Theater Festival will keep its status as a rich, diverse festival capable of mustering great spiritual resources for its audience.

For the interval between October 31 and November 8, the producer of the National Theater Festival, UNITER, drew up a rich program that compels theatergoers to a nine-day marathon. Besides the best shows of the 2007-2008 season, brought once again to light by the selector and theater critic Cristina Modreanu, NTF 2009 includes a premiere: Princess Turandot, directed by Andry Zholdak, a production of the Radu Stanca National Theater in Sibiu.

“What the event entitled The National Theater Festival, the only one to survive the transition and reach its 19th edition, proposes is a collection of provoking performances, some unusual, others on the borders of esthetic risk. NTF 2009 has both classics of our theater, names that everyone recognizes (Mihai Măniuţiu, Alexandru Tocilescu, Cătălina Buzoianu, Tompa Gabor, Alexandru Dabija, Alexandru Darie, Dragoş Galgoţiu, Alexander Hausvater), but also names that are building the theatre of the future (Radu Afrim, Gianina Cărbunariu, Vlad Massaci, Cristi Juncu, Ada Lupu, Felix Alexa, Theodor Cristian Popescu, Claudiu Goga, Alexandra Badea, Răzvan Mureşan), in addition to a few “new entries”, names you may have never heard because they belong to debutants (Alexandru Mihăescu, David Schwartz, Bogdan Georgescu, Felix Crainicu), but which may become favorites, because their shows, at either state or independent (Green Hours, Arca) theatres, are the most blatantly “in tune with the time”, says Cristina Modreanu.

Aside from the shows, NTF 2009 presents a series of related events that complete this edition and invite the young audience to be active participants: projections of films about theatre, under the title Films/Night/Theater = NTF, from 22.00 hrs. at the Elvira Popescu Cinema, book and magazine launchings on each day of the festival, from 16.30 at Carturesti bookstore on Verona St., debates and lectures to take place at the NUTCA and ACT Theater.

As usual, the National Theater Festival is supported by many partners, sponsors and media partners, to whom we hereby extend our thanks.
