NTF 2010 Recommends
The National Theater Festival wishes to call the public’s attention to connected events taking place in parallel with the official structure of the festival, which may be of interest to a public that loves theater in all its forms.
Thus, in 2008 the festival introduced a section named NTF Recommends, which includes theatrical productions, conferences, book launches, readings, debates, exhibitions related to the performing arts, organized by institutions that wish to enjoy the visibility of an important festival. This structure was designed to encourage organizers of theatrical events, with the hope that, in due time, it will become what is known in other major festivals of the world as the “Off section”.
Matthias Langhoff and Rodrigo Garcia at NTF 2010
Two of today’s most impressive European stage directors were invited to work in Romania this year: Matthias Langhoff by the Hungarian State Theater in Cluj Napoca, and Rodrigo Garcia by the National Theater in Timisoara. The unique productions they have mounted will be premiered at the National Theater Festival.
Matthias Langhoff, l’enfant terrible of contemporary German theater, is, among European directors, one with a most impressive career. His shows were performed on major German stages (Berliner Ensemble, Volksbühne and Schauspielhaus), as well as in important theaters in Italy, France, Switzerland and South America. He was manager of Vidy Theater in Lausanne and the Berliner Ensemble. He is a member of the Berlin Academy and Officer of the Legion of Honor.

In the summer of 2008, the show participated in the Edinburgh Festival, and in September, the same year, it was performed at the Israel Festival, among other events scheduled for Poland Year in Israel in 2008-2009.
International Production Directed by Purcarete at RNTF 20
The 20th edition of the National Theater Festival will feature the stage director Silviu Purcarete’s latest show: Exit the King, by Eugene Ionesco, an international coproduction. The show premieres on September 15 at the Ex Ponto Festival in Slovenia, and will later be presented in the RNTF, before going on tour in France, Italy, Montenegro, Macedonia and Croatia. In January 2011, the new building of Esch Theater in Luxembourg will be inaugurated with this production.
A great personality of European theater, Silviu Purcarete opted for an international team to stage Exit the King by Eugene Ionesco in 2010, after his 2007 success with Macbett, by the same author, at the Royal Shakespeare Company. This international coproduction is for Purcarete the opportunity of a new encounter with Ionesco, as well as with the music writer and close collaborator Vasile Sirli, and artists from France, Slovenia and Luxembourg.
