NTF Director

Cristina Modreanu (b. September 1974) is a theater critic and journalist.
In 1997 she received a university degree in journalism from the Journalism and Communication Sciences Faculty of the University of Bucharest; her graduation thesis was entitled Tendencies in Romanian Theatrical Journalism between 1990-1996. Cristina Modreanu is currently preparing her thesis Reinventing the Acting Space in Romanian Theater after 1990 as a doctoral candidate at the University of Theatrical and Cinematographic Art in Bucharest.

Professional activity:
• 1993 – Reporter for the Culture Department of Azi daily
• since 1994 – Reporter for Azi daily’s theatrical supplement Rampa
• 1997-2004 – Editor of the theater column in Adevarul daily
• 1998 – Contributor to Teatrul Azi theater magazine
• 2000 – Participant in the Young Theater Critics’ seminar organized by the International Association of Theater Critics in Strasbourg
• 2001 – The IATC “12 for the 2000 Generation” award received at UNITER gala
• 2002 – Grand Prize of the Cultural Journalism section of the Young Journalist of the Year contest organized by Freedom House, Romanian Publishing Group and Connex
• 2002 – Deputy Chief Editor of Adevărul Literar şi Artistic weekly
• 2003-2006 – Producer and host for TVR Cultural channel
• 2004 – UNITER award for theater criticism
• 2005 – Head of Culture Department of Gândul daily
• 2007 – Deputy Chief Editor of Gândul daily
• 2008 – Senior Editor at Gândul daily

Theatrical activity:
• since 2002 – Member of UNITER Senate
• festival selector of the Festival of Romanian Comedy in 2005, 2006, 2007
• sole festival selector of the Festival of Romanian Dramaturgy in 2006, 2007, 2008
• since 2008 – sole selector of the National Theater Festival
