Bogdan Georgescu / David Schwartz

He uses dramaturgy, stage direction, community theater, video composition, activism, social intervention as working tools to the same extent. A UEP Soros Fellow in 2004, initiator of tangaProject and stream founder of Active Art in Romania with Maria Draghici, he participates with the Offensive of Generosity Initiative (ofensivagenerozitatii.blogspot.com) as a community artist, in a creative process based chiefly on working with the involved community, in the projects The Sensitive Map, RahovaNonstop, Build Your Community!, The Eviction from the Students’ House in Timisoara. Currently he is working on two projects: Tour in the Countryside, taking place in various culture houses from various regions of the country, starting from the real story of the janitress turned English teacher, and Split Screen, an urban investigation project, alongside Miruna Dinu, David Schwartz, Ioana Paun and Vera Ion (founding members of tangaProject).

David Schwartz was born in 1985 in Bucharest. He graduated from the Theater Faculty of the National University of Theatrical and Cinematographic Arts in Bucharest, where he specialized in stage direction. In 2005, together with fellow students Miruna Dinu, Bogdan Georgescu, Vera Ion and Ioana Paun, he initiated tangaProject, an independent theater group for exploration and development of new types of theatricality and dramaturgy, experimentation of means of theatrical expression, and introduction of the community theater concept. With tangaProject he worked on community art projects such as RahovaNonstop-A 25-hour Show (Bucharest, 2006), Build Your Community! (Bucharest, 2007), and The Eviction from the Students’ House (Bucharest, 2008). With Ioana Paun he directed the performances Let’s Food! (Capitol Garden, Bucharest, 2006) and Locked (in the project Protect-Desant Bucharest, 2006). He directed the shows The Powder Keg (after Dejan Dukovski, Casandra Studio, Bucharest, 2007), Out! (text by Mihaela Michailov, in the project Build Your Community!, VA URMA Park, Bucharest, 2007), and Rags (dramatization by Mihaela Michailov, after a story by Chuck Palahniuk, Luni Theater at Green Hours, Bucharest, 2008). Presently he works with the tangaProject team on Split Screen, an urban investigation project that will unfold in London and Bucharest in parallel.
