The first Romanian stage version of this play attributed to Shakespeare is signed by Alexandru Tocilescu, one of the stage directors who “crossed” two historical periods remaining free of servitude. Bold and inventive, a friend of the artistic avant-gardes, for King Edward III Tocilescu reunited with Ion Caramitru, together with whom he produced a momentous Hamlet, the first Romanian performance to go on tour abroad after the 1989 Revolution. Caramitru takes most of the show on his shoulders, proving that his years of political involvement and preoccupation with the interests of Romanian theater people have not obscured his passion for the stage. The cast of this grandiose show, performed in the setting of one of the most acclaimed Romanian designers, Dragos Buhagiar, includes names of young actors, among which Crina Muresan, already a star of Romanian theater.
