The RNTF has announced its selection!
Monday, June 14, at 4 PM., the Romanian National Theater Festival (October 30 - November 7, 2010), now on its 20th edition, announced its selection in a press conference.
Cristina Modreanu, the sole selector and artistic director of the NTF, says: “Structurally speaking, the 2010 NTF and the 2008 and 2009 editions are very much alike, because it was my wish to give coherence to my term as a selector. However, in 2010 I decided that independent productions should no longer be separated from the official selection, as they differ only in the production system, not from an artistic point of view, considering that in recent years the independent system has seen excellent, dynamic development, to which I would like to call your attention.”
Cristina Modreanu also said that the NTF selection included two premieres: one directed by Rodrigo Garcia at the Timisoara National Theater, the other directed by Matthias Langhoff at the Cluj Hungarian State Theater.
RNTF 2010 will also include foreign productions. Two have already received confirmation: Hey, Girl!, directed by Romeo Castellucci, and Exit the King by Eugene Ionesco, directed by Silviu Purcarete, a coproduction of Les Arts et Mouvants, Cie à l’endroit des mondes allant vers (Paris), Ex-Ponto Festival (Slovenia), UNITER, Romanian Cultural Institute (Cantemir program). Another two shows have been invited and will be announced this autumn.
RNTF 2010 also includes debates, conferences, meetings, book launches, and films about theater and dance.
Aura Corbeanu, executive director of NTF and vice-president of UNITER, says: “Apart from the main financers (the Ministry of Culture, Religious Affairs and Cultural Heritage and the General Council of Bucharest City Hall) and other valuable sponsors and partners, we are glad to have the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute, that accepted to support NTF over a period of three years, covering all the costs related to the presence of foreign professionals (promoters, theater directors, journalists), all in all sixty persons who will ensure international recognition of the most important theatrical event of the autumn.”
