All the girls, whether they admit it or not, wait all their lives for the unknown knight. He is bound to come, not necessarily on a white horse: he may be simply the lover who will extend a loving, protective hand when she most needs it. This is what Oliver Emanuel conveys in his play Bella and the Beautiful Knight, directed by Vladimir Anton for the Comedy Works for YOUng People project. The director selected a play that is unknown in Romania with a cruel theme: orphans who killed their parents, hidden truths, hints at incest, isolation, lies – but the apparent fairy-tale structure of the play makes things easier to bear and judge. Vladimir Anton is in full control of the action, while straddling the uncertain boundary between reality and fiction.
