One day, as he was leaving Gallimard publishers’ offices, the French philosopher of Romanian origin Emil Cioran realized he had forgotten the way home. It was the onset of an unforgiving illness and, at the same time, of a both painful and comforting journey through the meanders of the memory about to leave him, a journey across a century and almost a continent, from East to West. The issue of an entire epoch is thus raised, an epoch whose defining characteristic is also a gradual loss of memory.
Using paper theater, an original animation technique which he rediscovered and honed, the actor and director Alain Lecucq offers an example of imagination and creativity that may serve as a model for young actors in search of solutions for survival in an artistic “market” that is ever harder to win.
