Ariane Mnouchkine in the National Theater Festival
The work of the famous stage directress is for the first time introduced to Romania by the NTF. Tonight at 19.00, at Elvira Popescu cinema, the 2009 National Theater Festival, with support from the Embassy of France and of the French Institute, invites you to a memorable meeting with the work of Ariane Mnouchkine: Bernard Zitzermann’s film of the show produced in 2007 by the Theatre du Soleil, Les éphémères.
Four hours of a show that spans the entire 20th century by means of happenings in the lives of ordinary people. A show that has traveled the whole world with huge success, the most recent in the prestigious New York Lincoln Center Festival last summer.
A show that will never be performed in Bucharest because of its enormous costs can be watched in a unique screening tonight at the French Institute, courtesy of the Theatre du Soleil, who have answered the invitation from the NTF.
Before the screening, one of the main performers of the show, Delphine Cottu, actress of the famous Theatre du Soleil, the team of the legendary French directress, will make a brief presentation of her work with Ariane Mnouchkine. Saturday, November 7, at 10.00, at the French Institute, the actress will meet the press and those who watched the movie and want to ask questions.
Another film that documents Ariane Mnouchkine’s work, From Theatre to Cinema, will be screened Sunday, November 8, at 22.00, at the same cinema, preceded by the launching of the book Interviews with Ariane Mnouchkine. Raising a monument to the ephemeral by Josette Féral, an event organized by the NTF with Art-Hoc.
With its screenings of theater films at Elvira Popescu hall and the French Institute, the book launchings at Carturesti bookstore, and the conferences at the NUTCA, the National Theater Festival reaches an extended international dimension that deals with theatrical practices in the world.
